FUND-RAISING TIPS!

1) Bake Sale ideas - parents who don't have time to bake can bring bagels, cream cheese or bananas -- our biggest seller at our last bake sale!

2) Don't single out one volunteer for special praise or award. Appreciate everyone equally. Avoids jealousy and keeps volunteers returning.

3) Create a donation jar and display it at every event. Use large pretzel jar and write the word "donation" on the front.

You never know when someone will drop a $100 bill in there...it happened for us at Brooklyn Tech!

4) Ask for a specific amount in your request for donations letter to parents. We ask for $300, which seems to be a magic number for us.

We have taken in $8,000 more from the letter asking for $300 this year than we took in last year when we didn't ask for a specific amount.

5) Tie your auction theme to the season: an outdoor barbecue theme in June, a winter carnival or ski lodge theme in January.

6) Have an ethnic dinner night. Ask parents to make their favorite ethnic food, label it with history, country and ingredients. Charge parents $10.00 a plate for the buffet. Create community while you raise funds.Add a small silent auction to raise money.

7) Have donation jar at entrance or exit from your street fair. You'll be surprised how much you'll collect.

8) Have a guest book at the entrance to the fair that gather names and email addresses. You will know about how many people came. Email them the date and happenings at the fair to increase attendance next year.

9) Sell grab bags for adults from cosmetics donations, tools donations or donated books at your auction. Keep price low, like $10.00 -- everyone can go home with something and feel like a winner.

10) Add a 50/50 raffle to your auction activities. It will raise money and the excitement level.

11) Consider these auctions themes: prom night, kings and queens (dress like famous kings and queens or any kings and queens), characters from a movie or book, fairytale as the theme with all decorations like famous fairytale characters.
